What You Should Know About the Plague

I'll admit, plague sounds scary. Just the name conjures images of millions of bodies piled in carts and thrown over castle walls. Posies and herbs, masks and crucifixes. And fear. Fear. Funny how some things never change, even over a thousand years.

Plague is caused by the bacteria Yrsinia pestis. There are anywhere between 0-17 cases annually in the US. It is an infection easily treated with simple antibiotics.

In 15 years, 8 Americans have died of the Plague. Compare that to the 57,000 who die annually from the flu...

So please, before a squirrel in Lake Tahoe ruins your entire life, learn about the diseases around you, instead of being blinded by a thousand years of fear and superstition.

Honestly if your going to worry, worry about getting hit by a car.

You're not going to die from the Plague.
